Bilgavia Estate is located at Milbrodale, within the Broke Fordwich region in the picturesque Hunter Valley.
Bilgavia Estate has been making wine for a number of years, with most of the vineyard’s grapes being sold to leading Hunter Valley winemakers.
In 2012 we carefully selected a small batch of our best fruit for our own wine. The Chardonnay was harvested early, in order to produce a sparkling Blanc de Blanc wine.
Over the past few vintages, we have grown our portfolio of wines to now comprise Bilgavia Estate Hunter Valley Chardonnay, Verdelho, Semillon, Shiraz, Tempranillo, Pinot Rosé and Pinot Noir. We hope to have a Fiano in the next few years.
The vineyard is owned by Leona and Phil Gunter and comprised 17 hectares of Shiraz, Verdelho, Chardonnay and Semillon; the classical Hunter Valley varieties.
In 2012 plantings of Tempranillo, Fiano, Merlot and Pinot Noir were added to the vineyard. This comprised grafting existing vines as well as planting new vines. The vineyard now covers 19.6 hectares.
Broke Fordwich is a short distance from Pokolbin and is surrounded by the Brokenback Ranges and iconic Yellow Rock.
Bilgavia Estate was created following the purchase of three separate dairy farms adjoining each other in 1999 these three highly productive and well located farms have been developed into a totally integrated thoroughbred horse stud, cattle farm and commercial vineyard, completed in 2007. Bilgavia was the name of one of the original three properties and was kept as the name for the wine label for its historical value.
Grapes were grown on the property as far back as the 1820’s. Bilgavia Estate has been making wine for a number of years, with most of the vineyard’s grapes being sold to leading Hunter Valley winemakers.
